Regions of the US with more single, full-time-working men relative to single women tend to have higher marriage rates, both for women and for men. This suggests that areas with greater job opportunity may be better places for young adults to find a spouse. As shown in our Get Married Maps, some of the highest ratios of single, employed men to single women can be found in regions with a large military presence; the northern-central United States; and the San Jose metropolitan area, known for its high concentration of tech jobs. By contrast, inner-city regions often have lower ratios.
